Description
Since 1931, the MUba de Tourcoing has been housed in the elegant Roussel-Defontaine town house, built in 1866. This emblematic building, representative of the architecture in vogue under Napoleon III, is a first discovery in itself, even before entering the exhibition spaces.
Since 2009, the museum has borne the name MUba Eugène Leroy, in tribute to the Tourquennois artist whose exceptional donation of over 600 works has profoundly enriched the collections. This contribution has shaped the identity of the museum, which has become a place where classical, modern and contemporary art meet on a permanent basis.
The thematic tour features paintings, drawings and sculptures, creating surprising face-offs between masters such as Louis-Léopold Boilly, Rembrandt and Théodore Rombouts, and contemporary artists such as Felten-Massinger, Antoine Petitprez and Philippe Cazal. Some works also engage in dialogue with twentieth-century figures such as Martin Barré and Jean Fautrier, offering a fresh reading of artistic movements.
Half of the space is given over to the permanent collections, whose display changes regularly to accompany the major temporary exhibitions scheduled two or three times a year. A visit that invites you to explore art in all its forms, in a museum in constant motion.
