Lille to host the headquarters of the European Customs Authority (EUCA)!

What is the European Union Customs Authority (EUCA)?

Created as part of the reform of the Customs Union in May 2023, the European Union Customs Authority (EUCA) will coordinate the twenty-seven national customs administrations, manage the European Trade Data Hub and harmonise external border controls. The new agency will employ two hundred and fifty staff, and will eventually grow to five hundred, making it the second largest agency in Europe after the Anti-Money Laundering Authority.

In March 2026, the European Union officially designated Lille Metropole as the location for the EUCA headquarters. Competing against Warsaw, Oporto, Rome, Zagreb, Bucharest, The Hague, Liège and Malaga, the region won the bid for its strategic position, its innovation ecosystem and its exceptional quality of life. This victory will generate an estimated annual spin-off of more than fifty million euros, significantly boosting the city’s European profile.
